It might be a long shot, but I notice that a Joseph Vandegrift married a Mary McBean in Bucks Co. 9 Dec 1782; the surety was John Vandegrift. I saw this in Marriage Bonds of Bucks Co., PA. The earlies McBean surname I can find in PA is 1820; I wonder if this was a transcription error for BEAN or BEANS (or even for Mary M. Bean). Possibly worth a peek?
