I have just seen your message of 2 yrs ago.I am researching BAND but in the Warwickshire / Worcestershire area.
I assume by now that you have found MARTIN BAND in the 1881 Census at Buslingthorpe Vale, Leeds, Yorks.stated bn Bristol and aged 38. In FreeBMD Martin is probably the one shown bn Bristol June Q 1842 (11 168). Ihave an index to names in the 1851 Census of Bristol but no BAND there.I did, however find a MARTIN BAND at Kingsholm, Glos. in 1851 Census (item 104 - HO107/1961) aged 8 bn Bristol.Living in family with father JOSEPH (42 Parchment Maker, bn Coventry).Unfortunately although I have BAND family only a few miles outside Coventry I do not have link with JOSEPH as far as I know.(I think this JOSEPH is the one in Portobella Lane, Sawsto, Cambridge (widower aged 72) in 1881.
I also found an ANN BAND aged 13 in 1861 Census for Blockley, Glos stating she was bn Bristol. Thus appears there was a BAND family there in about 1847 but she was not mentioned in 1851 Census at Kingsholm. That could mean 2 families in Bristol in 1840's named BAND.
Assuming trades run in families I found a FRANCIS BAND (with a son named JOSEPH) in 1881 census at 2 Cambridge Villa Park Road, Ealing, Middlesex a parchment maker, aged 56 and bn Coventry.Nearby was a MARTIN BAND also a parchment maker, aged 59 but stating bn Bermondsy.Interesting is however interesting to note that in both cases children of both FRANCIS and MARTIN bn in 1850,s were born in Walworth, Middlesex.I have not sought to find any relationships.
