BANCROFT Family in MA, Native American ?

Hello.

In rereading a paragraph in the "WILKINS book," I think I have been misunderstanding what it said. The statement is: William WILKINS .... married Sarah BANCROFT, who was the daughter of an Indian, whose mother was a PICKETT.

I had guessed the mother was a Native American. This week I'm thinking that it meant that her father was a Native American. So, I'm curious if anyone knows of a Native American family in 1700's Massachusetts with the surname, BANCROFT.

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

(As with my previous postings, I believe that William and Sarah WILKINS are the parents of Samuel WILKINS, born 1770's in "Maine," my ancestor. But, I can't prove it.)
