I am trying to establish the parentage and grandparentage of my ggggrandmother, Elizabeth Bancroft, of Nelson, Portage Co, OH, b. 1805. She married Lyman Eldred of Bedford, OH 1/27/1825 and died 1842. She is buried in Tinker cemetery in Nelson in what appears to be a Bancroft plot next to the headstone of Rudolphus Bancroft, son of John, also buried nearby. I have not been able to establish her relationship, if any, to John Bancroft and his sons.
John Bancroft and his wife Grace arrived in Portage Co with 4 sons about 1803 from either CT or MA. An LDS ancestry file indicates that a John Bancroft b, ca 1755 was the husband of Grace Stiles b. 3 Nov 1755 in Colchester, Tolland, CT. Grace is given as the daughter of Job Stiles and Ann Bliss.
John Bancroft's four sons were Rhudolphus, Artemis, David and John. Rhudolphus' ancestry file states his father was John Bancroft, Jr who lived and died in MA. I believe this is in error. One piece of evidence suggesting a link between Grace Stiles andRhodolphus is the birthplace of Rhodolphus in 1782 as Granville, Hampshire, MA. Grace was married in 1781 in Granville and her mother died there in 1782. Also the tombstone of Rhodolphus' brother David states that David was born in Granville.
Any info that would help establish Elizabeth's relationship to the Portage Co Bancrofts would be welcome.
