According to genealogist/historian Cutter,
all early American Bancrofts (including
myself) are descended from the servant
of William Carpenter on the Bevis in 1638,
called Thomas Banshott (name later altered to
Bancroft). Does anyone have any light to shed on this, other than indignation.
