I know they were "Dutch" settlers. My studies indicate most Dutch settlers were not historically from Holland for more than just a couple of generations. The typical "Dutch" settler were of Foreign descent and were living in Holland in exile. A good deal of the true Dutch were urbanites dealing with trade which was booming in the 1600s. I realize the Banckers came over in the 1500s and maybe they feared what the Spainish would do.
