I was excited to read your e-mail and decided to take you up on your generous offer of assistance. My great grandfather was George Banas. He married Mary Soltis (or Sholtis?).They were in America, in Disputanta, Virginia, in the early 1900's but don't know when they arrived here. The little info I have on where they came from is "Richvalda, Zupa Sariska, Czechoslovakia.
You mentioned Saris as a region in Slovakia--is this "Sariska" the same area?
We have not been able to confirm where this village of Richvalda (Richvalde? or Rychvalda?)is--and it may be in another country now since the border lines have changed over the years. Also they made mention of coming from the Tatra or Tatry mountains. One other bit of info:George and Mary had three daughters-- Anna (who married George Zuskin), Susie, and Dora (who married John Jamarik).Dora and John are my grandparents.Dora was born November 12, 1882.Dora came over to America in 1898, but we don't know if her parents came then or not.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer. You are so gracious to make yourself available.
