Born in Skirwith, Cumberland, England, lived Newcastle upon Tyne, Burnhamsville and Duluth, Minnesota. His obituary says 'Mr. Balmer was a pioneer in Todd county, where for a great many years, he drove the Stage Coach from Long Prairie to Swanville. He was county commissioner and sherriff in that county at different times. Duluthians will remember him as the caretaker at the Pike Lake Boat club, in which capacity he served for the last few years.' He was survived by four of his six daughters, Mrs Hasbrouk, Mrs Reed, and Mrs J C Clark of Pike Lake, and Mrs Herbert Harwood of Duluth, and two of his three sons, George of Milwaukee, and John of Duluth. We can trace five ealier generation in England, but has anyone any information on him or his children and their descendants? Or the original of the photo which appeared in his obituary? I hope somebody can claim this interesting character. Jim Balmer, Loughborough, UK Notify Administrator about this message?
