Kerri, Josiah J Ballentine enlisted to fight in the civil war with his oldest son, Henry W. Ballentine. They were marched to Richmond, Virginia where Jefferson Davis wanted to put them into regiments. Health conditions were very unsanitary and Josiah J Ballentine died in Sept 1861, and his son Henry died a month later in October of 1861. They never fought a battle. A blog spot on the civil war said that Josiah J. Ballentine is buried at the famous Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond Virginia. That is probably why you never found his headstone in Suwannee Florida. My lineage goes through Josiah's daughter Artimicia.
