I'm sure that everyone that has posted these messages has updated their Ballentine info since 2000.I also had a "John" listed as the father of Nancy and Sarah Ballentine but no further information.
George and Lettitia are obviously the parents as they were located in Indiana county PA as early a 1816, along with John McElhose, born 1809, who married the daughters.John married Nancy first and their first child, a daughter Lettetia Jane, born 4 Jan 1837 is my husband's 2nd great-grandmother. The family had removed to Morgan county OH.
Their second child, a son, was named George Ballentine Mcelhose. He served in the 77th OH Infantry, Co. F during the Civil War with Lettetia's husband, John T. Sanders, and another brother, Archibald Stewart McElhose.
Another daughter of John and Nancy, Nancy McElhose, married Marion Alloway. The Sanders and Alloways moved to Vernon county WI after the Civil War.
Nancy Ballentine dies during or shortly after having her 5th child.John McElhose married Sarah Ballentine in 1842, who came to help with the children, and fathered 14 children with her. With the help of this forum, I added Helen Mariah and now have 18 of the 19 children.A son of John and Sarah, Abraham, b. 1848 is also buried in WI.I have tombstone photos of these WI families.
John is found on the 1880 census as living with daughter Nancy in WI, but I do not have a record on when or where he died.
I also had Issac, born Scotland as the father to George/John.Has anyone had any luck going further up the tree?
There is other information on the Ballentine family online at usgenweb for Indiana county PA, including a photograph of an Alexander Ballentine, which I am most curious about, or contact me if you are unable to locate this site.I will be happy to share tombstone photos or whatever I have on this family.
