Allen,
Well, it is very exciting to hear from you.I believe we are researching the same line. The info I have is on the Balentines in South Carolina's Dutch Fork area of Lexington County, in Tallasee, AL, (where my family is from) and other sections of AL.
Here's a brief on the info I have on the lineage: William b abt. 1746 in South Carolina.(Wife unknown)I only know of one of his children, James William Balentine b. 1773 in Dutch Fork Section, Lexington County, SC. d. abt 1851 in Lexington Co., SC.
James William married twice once to Mary Riddehuber (or Rietlehoover) and second to Anna Rietlehoover.By some accounts James and Mary had only two children, by other accounts they had as many as four. But James, we think had several children between the two wives:James Balentine, b Jan 3 1797, d. Feb 7 1856 in Lexington Co., SC; Elizabeth Balentine b abt 1802, Dutch Fork Sect., Lexington Co., SC d. bet 1845-1850; Allen Balentine b. abt 1806 Dutch Fork Sect., Lexington Co., SC; George Balentine b. Abt 1810 Dutch Fork Sect., Lexington Co., SC; John Ansley Balentine b. Abt 1814, Dtuch Fork Sect., Lexington County, SC, d. Abt. 1899; Mary Balentine b. abt. 1820, Lexington Co., SC; Charlotte Balentine b. abt. 1823, Lexington Co., SC; ?? Balentine b. bet 1820-1825, Lexington Co., SC; William M. Balentine b. Jun 15, 1812, Lexington Co., SC, d. Apr 26, 1891.
James Balentine (the second) Married Mary Catherine Sealy and they had the following children:
Lemuel Ballentine b. 1821 Lexington Co., SC, d. bef Feb 1856 Coosa County, AL; John William Ballentine b. 1822 Dutch Fork, Lexington Co., SC d. Jan 10, 1897 Pine Ridge, Lexington co., SC; James Daniel Ballentine b. Mar 30 1824, Lexington Co., SC, d. May 20, 1883, Dekalb Co., AL; Jesse Ballentine b. 1825 Lexington Co., SC; Sallie Ballentine b. 1826; Wesley Ballentine b. Sep 1828, Lexington Co., SC, d. May 7, 1856; Solomon Ballentine b. Jun 18, 1831, Lexington County, SC, d. October 27, 1855; Frederick Ballentine b. 1833, Lexington So., SC, d. 1862; Mary Ann Ballentine b. Dec 28, 1834, Lexington Co., SC, d. Aug 22 1903, Lexington Co., SC; Unknown Ballentine b. bet 1835 - 1840; Samuel Levi Ballentine b. 1839; Missouri Ballentine b. 1844, Lexington Co., SC, d. Jan 11, 1914; George W. Ballentine b. 1847, Lexington Co., SC; d. 1913
James Daniel Ballentine married Susan Barnett. They had four children:David Thomas Ballentine, John Lemuel Ballentine, Jeremiah Washington Ballentine, Martin Luther Ballentine.
David Thomas Ballentine married Edna Priscilla Wood. One of their children was my grandmother Sallie Bell Ballentine.
Hope this helps you.I'm very interested in finding out more about the connections and research you've found going back farther James William Balentine -- I've gotten little information on the line past that point other than just the names William and Dougal Balentine (or Dougald, as I've seen the name).
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
Mitzi
