Our family line spells the name BIRLEW. Family tradition says the name was originally spelled Balou or Beleau.

John BIRLEW b. 1810-1818 North Carolina; m. Milbrey (ROBINSON/ROBERTSON) 1838 Smith Co., TN. They were in Christian Co., KY. by 1848, Maries Co., MO. in 1853 & Shannon Co., MO. Dec. 1853.

John BIRLEW'S mother was Jane (?) BIRLEW/BALEW - EVERETT. Mr. BIRLEW/BALEW died abt. 1830 TN. Jane remarried to a Mr. EVERETT & was widowed again by 1850.

Some known siblings of John BIRLEW were:

(Full sibling) Robert BIRLEW b. 1822 SC/NC. He married Tabitha (BOYD/ROBBINS). They lived in Dekalb Co., TN. in 1850, relocated to Pulaski Co., MO. 1850-1855, bought land in Maries Co., MO. 1856, 1858 & 1859, relocated to Allen Co., KS. by 1860.

(Full Sibling) Elizabeth/Eliza Ann (BIRLEW/BILYEU/BALEW) b. 1821 SC. m. (1) Nicholas "Bully" Cox. Their first child was born in TN. They were in Pulaski/Maries Co., MO. as early as 1843 by some accounts. Elizabeth m. (2) J. M. Kinney; (3) Steven Roberson.

(Full Sibling) Joseph BIRLEW b. 1820-1825 ?; m. Cathirine (?) b. 1825 TN. This family is in the 1880 Red River Co., TX. census.

(Half Sibling) Susan D. (EVERETT) b. 1835 TN.; m. Thomas DOYLE. They were in Maries Co., MO.

(Half Sibling) Unknown female (EVERETT) m. Crittenden ROACH. They were in Maries Co., MO.

There may have been other children in this family, but these are the ones that I'm aware of at present.
