I agree with everything you posted but since four different people claim a lineage that would have them descended from Thomas Ballard and Anne Thomas, two of them from William Ballard and Philadelphia, I find it difficult to accept that this is either unknown adoption(s) or “affair(s).”
I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that what I spent on my own DNA test and to extend that of Dustin Ballard was just a waste of money! All it really “proves” is that Dustin and I have a very high probability of a MRCA within 13 generations!
The conventional genealogy Vince Ballard has done on Mourning seems far more convincing! Even that leaves problems. Mourning seems to have moved from VA and lived among the sons of John Ballard and Ann Sayer. You have proven beyond any doubt that Thomas Ballard, husband of Susannah Hesson was not a son of Capt. John Ballard and Elizabeth Gibbons. Unless John, husband of Ann Sayer was not the son of Capt. John and Elizabeth Gibbons either but rather a son of William Ballard and Philadelphia, Mourning would not be that closely related to sons of John and Ann Sayer.
Chester Nash did write, regarding his ancestor Bland Ballard, “He is listed in the 1779 will of his father, Thomas Ballard. He and his father Thomas were witnesses to the 1780 will of his uncle John.” Could Chester have concluded that Bland and Thomas, husband of Susannah Hesson, witnessed the will of John, husband of Ann Sayer and that they were brothers? Is there any independent evidence such as signatures? I realize that John and Ann Sayer had sons named Thomas and Bland as well and that you do have a John Ballard as a son of William and Philadelphia with little more on him.
