* 1801 - John Ballard married Nancy Goolsby March 3, 1801, daughter of Samuel Goolsby and Ephpha Marr in Amherst Co. Virginia. Parental Consent: We Samuel Goolsby and Ephpha Goolsby, do hereby authorise the Clerk of said Co. Amherst to licence John Ballard and Nancy Goolsby, our daughter for marriage. Given from under our hands, this third day of March 1801. Attest: Samuel Goolsby, Ephpha Goolsby
* Marriage Bond: Know all men by that John and Alexander Marr are held and bound unto James govenor or chief magistrate of the Commonwealth of Virginia the Sum of One hundred and fifty dollars to be paid to the said Govenor and his successors to which payment will and truly be made we lend ourselves jointly and severly our joint and several heirs exect and leons firly by their presents sealed with our seals and date this 3d day of March 1801. The condition of the above obiligation is such that whereas there is a marriage intended shortly to be had and solemnized between Nancy Goolsby and the above bound Jno Ballard. Now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then the above obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force power and virture.
