Hi Erin,

I have a John Ballantine (b. abt 1761 - d. 1833) who settled in St Lawrence County. He and his family lived in the Lisbon/Oswegatchie area, near Ogdensburg. His wife was Mary McShannon; children were Hugh, William, James, Margaret, Ann and Jane. John and Mary were born in Scotland, lived near Ballynure, NI for a bit; then came to the states.

I have heard some stories about a publishing company, and a friendship with Sir Walter Scott; but need to check that further. I have no information about parents or siblings for John or Mary; but have good info from them to present. Would be happy to share info.

I've found the location of John's farm, and James had a general store in Ogdensburg.

Hope this is of use to you; have you come across any of these Ballantine's in your search?

(Spouse surnames of children: McCullough, Clements, Graham, Forsythe, Coleman, Woodside)

Cheers,

Terry
