My ancestors came over in 1820 from Scotland. The father was a weaver, and was bringing his loom over with him. There was also a wife and 2 boys. The mother and father died on the voyage. When the ship arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, the boys (ages 7 and 5) were taken in by a local farmer. Ten years later, the older boy, JOHN BALLANTINE, settled in Lanark County. Let me know if this helps at all. More info available.
