Our connection may be distant, but here's what I have: My grandmother, Katherine Balint (Wavra) was the daughter of Stephanus and Elizabeth (Dora) Balint. Her sisters were Mary and Elizabeth. The family was from Kosice, Slovakia, which was formerly Kassa, Hungary. Elizabeth married Paul Baksi (pronounced BOK shee--and family changed it to Boxey after arriving in US) and came to Homestead, PA, around 1904. Katherine and Elizabeth settled in Gladwin, Michigan, about 1912. Their sister Mary married Andro Albrecht and settled in Poughkeepsie, NY. Our family tradition was that the name Balint was pronounced BI yink and was a hungarian name. More details on Stephanus Balint: he was born July 1853 son of Joannes Balint, manual laborer, RC, and Maria Szemanisik, GC; godparents were Stephanus and Maria Spisak.
