William L. (for Lovett) Balfour of Madison County, MS, was most likely born in North Carolina, and most likely in 1802.Please seehttp://www.rootsweb.com/~msmadiso/1850census/cenb.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~msmadiso/1850census/cenb.htm
Dr. William T. (for Taylor) Balfour was born in Norfolk, VA, in 1812.Please see http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asphttp://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
He was the son of Dr. George Balfour.George was in turn the son of James Balfour of "Little England," in Hampton, Virginia.James died in 1775.
James Balfour of Hampton was quite an illustrious man.
I'm not descended from James.I'm descended from the half-brother of William Lovett Balfour.
James's grandson William Taylor Balfour was the owner of the Balfour House in Vicksburg during the Civil War.William Taylor Balfour's wife Emma is remembered as a diarist of the siege of Vicksburg.
I read that William L., my ancestor's half-brother, was related to Dr. William T. Balfour, but I've never been able to find out how he was related. If I knew how, I think I could find out more about where my line came from, especially where they came from on the other side of the Atlantic.
