I read your message about Andrew Balfour some time ago, but did not have any information that would help at the time.
I recently read the Markinch OPR and checked to see if Andrew's birth was there - unfortunately, there are no entries from 1777 until mid-1800!However, I do know that John Balfour and his wife Jean Wilson wre tenants in Cameron only a couple of years before, so it makes sense that he was their son.
Can you tell me where his gravestone is?
I am not related to the Balfours, that I know of, but have been tracing Jean Wilson and her relatives. She was, as you probably know, at Upper Pratis in Largo Parish then moved with her family to Carskerdo which is mostly in Ceres parish, although a small part is in Largo.Jean's sister, Margaret was married to Walter Wilson of Coul, Markinch.Their brother, James Wilson, emigrated to the USA where he reached prominence when he signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and was one of the first Supreme Court justices
