Matthew Balfe d. 1964 Liverpool, UK. Matthew Balfe was my maternal granfather and lived and worked in Liverpool, UK. He died in 1964 in Liverpool and had a brother Michael who had died earlier in the merchant navy. When we say that goods have come from dubious origin we say that they have "fallen off the back of a lorry"; my grandfather's job was to drive that particular lorry in the Liverpool docks !!
If there is any information out there about any Balfe who travelled to the UK that might be of use then I would be interested to hear.
Based on the little research that I've done it would appear that Matthew was born in Ireland and in effect was an economic migrant.
