James Joseph Balfe was my grandfather. Not an awful lot is known about him but I thought posting the details might assist some of you researching your own histories. He was born approximately 1892 in Dublin, Ireland. I do not know the names of his parents but believe they came from Glenfarnam, County Wicklow. He died in early 1964 in County Cork, Ireland a few months before my birth. He was the middle of three children. His older brother was Peter Balfe and his younger sister was Marguerite (aka Daisy) Balfe. He married Mary Balfe (nee Leydon from Co. Sligo who passed away during WW2) and they had three children: Mary Philomea (aka Moya)(of Sligo and since past away), Ann Patricia (my mother)(of Calgary, Canada and living) and Desmond Christopher Balfe presently of West Port, Ireland. My grandfather remarried after my grandmother's passing to Maura (aka Mary) Goulding of Cork, Ireland. They did not have any children. For most of his working life he appears to have been employed by the London Evening News as a print manager in England. He seems to have retired back to Ireland. Hope this is of use to someone out there. Liam O'Connor, Toronto, Canada Notify Administrator about this message?
