Hello, everyone: I am trying to find my gggrandfather, James "Boldukes", who lived in Dallas,Co.,Texas. He was a carriage maker who was killed in 1881 or 1882, when a carriage he was repairing fell on him. My family has a video which shows a picture of the large Victorian house he lived in. My gggrandmother, Anne, was his common-law wife. There is no record of their marriage. Their daughter, my ggrandmother was named Maggie. James is described as having been Scots-Irish and a "big guy" with red hair. I have been told that "Boldukes" is a corruption of "Bolduc". Bolduc is a french name and I have trouble associating it with James. I even had a search done on James "Boldukes"--nothing came up. If James "Thomas" was an alias, maybe that's why nothing has shown up under Boldukes or Bolduc. However, now I wonder if his surname might have been "Boldrick", "Boldick", "Boldock", "Baldock" or "Baldick". "Baldick(s)", "Boldock(s)", and "Baldock(s)" seem most likely. They have the same soundex code as "Bolduke(s), B432. I have no idea where he came from. I don't even know if there was a record of his death. The other day, I came across a site which said that it was customary for the Scots-Irish to name their first daughter after their mother's mother. Maybe this is why James named his daughter Maggie. James was definitely in Dallas,Co.,Texas from around 1878 or 1879 until he died in 1881 or 1882. Can anyone help me out or offer advice? Is Boldock or Baldock a Scots-Irish surname? Any information whatsoever would be *greatly* appreciated. Thank You, Tomisa Starr (tstarr@jps.net)
