I thought someone might be interested in some odds and ends I found while researching my son-in-laws family.

BALCOM, Charles E. (veteran) age 19. Resident of Waterloo. Born in NY. enlisted 20 May 1861-drummer. Mustered 10 June 1861-wounded slightly in neck 17 Sept 1861, Blue Mills, MO. Reenlisted 17 Dec 1863- See Co. B. 3rd Inf. consolidated Bat.


7th Inf. Co. F
BALCOM, Hiram (veteran) age 25 Residence Chillicothe. Born NY. Enlisted 11 Jul 1861 as 7th cpl. Mustered 24 Jul 1861- promoted 3rd Sgt. 3 Aug 1862. Gunshot wound in right leg. Reenlisted-remustered 5 Jan 1864. Promoted 2nd Sgt. 17 Mar 1864. Discharged for disability 1 Jun 1865, Keokuk, Iowa
