I am most anxious to know what you know -my ancester is Alexander, who lived in Rhode Island and later Massachusetts after his arrival in the US sometime before 1651. I know that many parish records were held in Ardingly, England and that many more are in Canterbury, but I've no means to access them.

I've seen the name spelled so many ways it's unbelievable, however, in West England it appears spelled most often as Balcombe, in East England Baulcomb or Bawlcomb - in the US we've dropped e's and b's and even added a consonents, as with my family when they arrived in Dutch Pennsylvania. I suspect that it is not so much differnt branches of the family tree, although there's a degre of that as well, but more likely the result of a less than fully literate society.

I look forward to hearing from you. If you'd rather contact me on my regular email I can be reached at nancshore@yahoo.com
