Hiram L. Balcom, b. abt. 1836, was the son of Ziba Balcom & Almira Wright. Ziba sold his land in Ontario Co, NY in 1834 and arrived in Cherry Creek, Chautauqua Co, NY in time for the 1840 census (Almira Wright's father William was living nearby in Villenova at the time). Ziba & Almira moved on to Carthage, Athens Co, OH, where he died 27 Mar 1850.

Hiram & Mary (Vanford) Balcom are found in the 1880 census of Jewell Co, KS, and he is listed on the 1883 list of pensioners there.
