Steve,

I believe my own Balcom search has been unsuccessful because I've so far limited myself to Sussex; however, Eastbourne does have a number of Baulcom/Balcom family names.

I believe that my family roots dropped the extraneous vowels, like many of the dissenters of that time, which has made the searching that much more difficult.

I have traced my roots to Alexander Balcom of Rhode Island c. 1850ish. I have not been able to determine where he left from, or the exact date of his arrival.

He was married to Mildred Spatchhurst (pardon the spelling if it is incorrect) and if you see any of these names in your research I'ds sur elike to know about it.

Thanks,

Nancy Shaw
