Hi again Bob, We're part of the High Ham (Higham) group. There's Muchelney, Pitney and Langport in that cluster. Also Somerton, to the east. You ask about the Abbey of Muchelney. Well, Charles V. Balch has on his webpage, "Some Pre-American Balches": "...There was no monastic establishment at Ilminster, but the manor belonged at the Abbey of Muchelney. The manor of Ilminster the church of the river Ile] with the whole place., was given by Ina, King of the West Saxons, to the abbey of Muchelney, founded by King Athelstan in 939". That's at: Ilminster Parish doesn't adjoin Muchelney. I'm just looking at the Parish map, and it makes almost an equilateral triangle with North Curry and Muchelney. We're not talking vast distances, though. For example, High Ham is only 4 miles west of Somerton, and the distance between Muchelney and the other two would be (roughly) double that. Walking distance, in other words - especially if there was something worth walking for. Cheers,
