I run the Balch Y-DNA project and have been desperately trying to find a male Balch from our line who would be willing to donate DNA to the cause. It simply involves swabbing the inside of the mouth with a test kit that is mailed to them. If you have a brother or other male relative still carrying the Balch name who might be willing, please let me know. It would be done at no cost to them...I'll pay for it. They only have to provide the sample.
There is one person from the Maryland Balch represented in the Balch DNA project. Assuming his DNA does indeed represent the Maryland Balch line, and assuming our Balch line really is a branch of that line too, then your Balch relative should match the Maryland Balch line, and that would support the theory that our John Balch b. 1778 is from that line. The Reverend Hezekiah Balch line you see at the following page is the Maryland Balch line.
