Hi Beth,
Your Ernest Berkely Balch was the son of Lewis Penn Witherspoon Balch, Jr and Emily Wiggin (2nd wife). Lewis P.W. Balch Jr, was son of Lewis Penn Witherspoon Balch Sr. and Elizabeth Emeline Weaver of Leesburg, Va. area. This line descends from the John Balch-Catharine Clelland line of Deer Creek settlement, Lord Baltimore's Maryland colony. This John Balch arrived in America in 1658 and is cousin to John Balch of Massachusetts, who cam in 1623.
Our Maryland Balch history was posted on our web page at www.geocities.com/gbalch431, however, it has not been accessible for several days now. I think they may have gone kaput. Since Yahoo acquired Geocities it has been a steady down-hill situation. They should fold up altogether.
