Hello, Leslie,

If you can furnish more information about your ancestors, I will try to look them up in my reference. "Balch Genealogica" devotes about a hundred pages to the Somerset Balches, so there is a lot to research. I found the reference Galusha Balch quoted-its from "The Preparations in Somerset against the Spanish Armada, by Samuel Green, London, 1888, page 87, 90. I have identified the family of the John Balch listed there as a "pycke" of North Curry. His family was listed in the Cartulary of Muchelney Abbey, but I have not found a reference to William. Can you give me some geographical information? Where is Muchelney Abbey? My reference cites 4 groups of Balches: Higham-Horton-Ilminster group, North Curry group (where I found John Balch), Bridgewater group, and the Wells-Bruton group. Which is more likely to contain Muchelney?
