Hello Everyone, I have just started a Balch DNA Project at Family Tree DNA. I can see that three Balch people have been tested through the company already, so if you're out there, please feel free to use the "Join" option to join the newly created project. Here's a link to the project: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=T16902&special=true For those unfamiliar with the concept, Y-DNA is DNA that is passed from father to son and thus it tracks a surname. In theory, every male in a line that shares the same surname (e.g. Balch) should have matching or very similar DNA. There's a greater likelihood that sixth cousins would have differences than first cousins, but it's all a game of probability. As an example, it's widely believed that the John Balch in Warren Co., KY was the grandson of the John Balch in Mecklenberg Co., NC. If a male descendant the Warren Co. line were to match a known descendant of the Mecklenberg Co. line, we could at least confirm a connection. We wouldn't know exactly when the connection occured, but it would provide a little substantiation to the theory. I just thought I'd give this project a shot and see if there's any interest. If so, please fire away with any questions. Thanks. Jane Gilbert Descendant of John Balch and Nancy Basham of Warren Co., KY and Giles Co., TN Notify Administrator about this message?
