Hezekiah J. Balch-War of 1812

Nat'l Archives (NARA) War of 1812 Discharge Certificates, Appendix IV: List of Soldiers by Unit, shows a company of soldiers commanded by Capt. William McIlvain,in the 14th Infantry Regiment. Hezekiah J. Balch is listed as one of the soldiers in Capt. McIlvain's company. Does anybody know anything about this company of soldiers - where they were from, where they served, any logs, diaries, other accounts? Any battles, campaigns, duty stations? Hezekiah served with a John Varnes, whom I am trying to identify in any way possible. NARA can't help me in my search - I've tried (Form 86 with no results).I'd really appreciate any info on this company of soldiers, hopefully with sources,
and specifically any info on Hezekiah Balch and John Varnes. Sincerely,
John D. Varnes
