Hi Larry, Thanks for writing. It's always nice to hear from a Balch cousin. First, I attribute the "Baulch" to the fact that the neither the person who answered the door when the census taker knocked nor the census taker knew how to spell their name. If you think about it, the name is pronounced "Baulch." Unfortunately, I have no idea what Samuel's first wife's name is. Her first name looks like Minerva to me on the 1850 census, but I can't be sure. I haven't made an all-out effort yet to piece together the Balches, but I'll be happy to send you a genealogy report or descendant tree if you like. The genealogy report would contain notes which are basically just bits and pieces of info I've picked up here and there. Just let me know how much you're interested in. Jane
