Danford was my GG Grandfather and I have done
some research regarding the hanging and the
subsequent disposition of his estate. There were several articles published in the "Oregonian" Newspaper which suggest that some very prominent Portland citizens made some inappropriate legal transactions out of greed as stated in one article, "No other case in the history of litigation in Oregon has ever attracted as much attention. The reason is that its beginning was laid in most villianous fraud, through which minor children were despoiled of their inheritance and turned out upon the world without education or property. This was consummated through a studied plan of robbery under forms of law, conceived and carried out by those who were under every obligation of honor, duty and law to protect the helpless heirs whom they so pitilessly despoiled."
It goes on to actually name the parties involved and give very factual information.
Can you imagine the value of 640 acres in downtown Portland, Oregon today??
