Balch Y-DNA Project Update
Hello,
I'm the admin of the Balch DNA Project at FTDNA.I just thought I'd post a quick update in case anyone is interested in joining the party.
The vast majority of Balch men tested come from a single Balch family with apparent roots in Somerset, England.We've had men tested from all over the U.S., Canada and England all sharing the same DNA "haplotype"(baseline).
We're very fortunate that we have some very specific mutations in the various Balch branches that seem to uniquely identify them.For example, we can distinguish someone descending from the Massachusetts Balch branch vs. the Maryland Balch branch.There are even some mutations that appear to define specific branches within the Maryland Balch line.
If you descend from an "outlier" Balch man in the U.S. that you lose the paper trail on, Y-DNA testing might be able to help at least connect you to a branch.Please contact me if you're interested in learning more.
