Julia BAKKEN's father was Knute Iverson.

Knute K. BAKKEN and the other siblings changed the family name to BAKKEN. Bakken means those who dwell in the Beech forest.

The first pioneers of Northwood Twp., Grand Forks Co., ND, were eight Norwegian families who came from the region surrounding Northwood, IA. They made the trip to this county by ox teams and settled near the present town of Northwood, which received it's name in remembrance of their home town in IA. The families were all from Hol, Hallingdal, Norway.

Julia's brother, Knute K. Bakken attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and at Valperaiso, Indiana. He established a home in Northwood, North Dakota. He also lived in Sharon and Fargo, North Dakota. Knute was in real estate and insurance business.
