I am researching my family. I have an ancestor named Ole Bakken who married a Rennog “Rena” Peterson. I have a 1900 census for Elk Point, Union, South Dakota, which states that Ole and Rena are the parents of 13 children, but only 8 are living. The census states that Ole was born in 1850, Rena was born in 1853. Their children are: Mathias born 1879, Martha born 1880, Christina born 1882, Eli born 1885, Rena born 1888, Bertha born 1890, Alfred born 1892, Oscar born 1896, and Frank no dates. I do not have information on the 5 other children, so I do not know if they died in Norway, on board ship or in the United States.
The census states that the first 4 children listed were born in Norway with their parents. The rest of the children listed were born in Elk Point, South Dakota.
I have a death record of their daughter Bertha that states that her mothers last name is Peterson, not Olson. Also, the census i received does not show the last name of this family. So i do not know if I am spelling the name correctly.
This is the only information I seem to be able to find on my Great Great Grandparents. I cant seem to find out when they passed away, where they were buried, any information on this family would greatly appreciated.
