Hi Linda, I have uncovered a little bit of information about Patience - but none of it is with "proof" - just items I found on the internet...
WORLD CONNECT:
Patience Baker b. 12 Oct 1819 Vestal, BROOME, NY
died 12 Nov 1906 Vestal, Broome County, NY
buried: Riverside Cemetery, Broome County, NY
Note on the information:
1870 NY Broome Vestal indexed as "Patwin Benjamin 48
with her son Nathaniel 30
1880
NY Broome Vestal---- Johnathan Talmadge abt 1815 Patience abt 1821
I think the person posting meant that the CENSUS OF 1880 showed
Johnathan Talmadge as her spouse.
1900 NY Broome Vestal..... John Baty July 1840 Amelia Baty July 1842
Patience Talmadge M-i-l Oct 1830 (age 79?) Perhaps Patience was living with her daughter Amelia Benjamin b. @ 1842 Vestal, Broome, NY who married John Baty. You could check on that. If the dates are correct - John Baty may have also been in Civil War.
I think the M-i-l means military

ANCESTRY.COM:
PATIENCE BAKER B. ABOUT 1822
DIED 1906 VESTAL, BROOME, NY AGE 84
SON: GEORGE ALLEN BENJAMIN
B. @ 1835 ASYLUM, BRADFORD, PA
d. 14 Jun 1895 Vestal, Broome, NYm. Catherine (maiden name ukn)
Catherine b. 1848
So that shows the Benjamin family was in PA in 1835 and then they moved
to Vestal, Broome County, NY where Patience (Baker) Benjamin died.
I don't know how far it is from
Asylum, PA, but you can check that - also see census records for 1840 and see if Minor/Miner Benjamin is listed in Bradford, PA.
OTHER:
ANCESTRY.COM:
Minor Benjamin, Jr. is the husband of Patience Baker.NOTE THE JUNIOR IN NAME)
he was born 27 Nov 1817 in Ticonderoga Twp, Essex, NY (HE MUST HAVE MOVED TO BROOME,NY )
married about 1839 in Vestal, Broome, NY
died in 1863 - could he have been in Civil War? if so - you can send for
his military papers.
K. Margison also notes that Patience Baker Benjamin now marries, on the death of Minor Benjamin, another spouse "after 1863 NY"

(I believe Sharon is tracing her ancestors from NJ to NY )
"...and other New England areas. They mainly ended up in Broome County, Vestal area next to TIOGA COUNTY.....Patience Baker b. 1829 married into the Benjamin line. She was from TIOGA COUNTY....."
I have only quoted the part about Patience Baker, in which you are interested.
I found this information on the internet using :
GOOGLE, ADVANCED SEARCH, EXACT PHRASE:
Patience Baker Benjamin. You can search for Bakers in TIOGA COUNTY, if she were from that county.
This is not my family, but so many have helped me with my searches, that I like to help and give back. I have no other information, but suggestions:
USE:USGENWEB - go to NEW YORK STATE, and BROOME COUNTY and
use that search engine - also try the library in Broome County, NY
they usually havehelpful information, but be as specific as possible. Most of the time you can do it by email.
Also check out census records on Ancsestry.com, if you are using that
web engine.Since Patience Baker was born in 1819 in BROOME, NY
her parents should be listed in the 1820 US CENSUS of that county, and perhaps in VESTAL.
Also try the 1840 US CENSUS - look under BENJAMIN -surname.
And go to BROOME COUNTY, NY - Vestal -
If they were married in 1839 in Vestal, they should be listed
as Miner/Minor Benjamin and family.
Also on GENFORUM go to the site where you can request an obituary
and request one for Patience Baker Benjamin Talmadge and give the date
of death as 12 Nov 1906 Vestal, Broome, NY
Have fun searching!
