Charles Baker, his ancestry, legacy, and children are presented in "Descendants of Matthew Russell and Related Families of Jackson County, Alabama: A Collection of Genealogies," 2009, by Walter A. Russell. After presenting Charles' ancestry and legacy, the book focuses on descendants of his daughter, Nellie, and her husband, James Russell, who were early settlers in Jackson Co., Ala. This 6x9, 548 page, fully indexed review gives the lineages of their known allied families of Jackson Co. Charles' ancestry begins with William le Bakere who appears in the 1177 Pipe Rolls of Norfolk, England, and continues through Simon, Christopher, Alexander, Samuel, and Thomas who married Dorothy Davenport ca1734 and, according to tradition, died in 1777 in VA while making gunpowder for the American army in the RW. (A brief outline is present for eash of Charles' direct ancestors noted above.) This review was compiled from data gleaned through applicable archives; support by Mrs. Pearl O'Donald (dec.), who authored "Wee Bit of O'Scot Potpourri," in 1983; references to "Genealogy of The Baker Family," by W.R. Harris; and "The Baker Family," by Sadie W. Stidham. All of these references provide sources when available.
This book is described and are available on amazon.com; book reviews are posted on my website: www.matthewrussellgenealogy.com. I have a supply of these books, which are less expensive, and I will be happy to send interested parties a copy of the "flyer" describing its contents. For additional details please email me via this forum or by direct email. Thanks, Walt
