Sorry missed your reply. I agree with Davenport/Deavenport Baker's death but narrowed my range to 1851-1859 which both are approximations anyway. I base that on that he appears on the 1850 census and does not appear on the 1860. Granted that he could have dies in 1850 or 1860 so there is some margin of error. There are other order abnormalities on the 1850 Yancey County, NC Census concerning Baker's so Jesse and Thomas may be the children of Davenport/Deavenport Baker and Rachel Oakes. For example see the households of Thomas Wiseman Baker and David Baker. Marriage info for Deavenport/Davenport Baker and Rachel Oakes could prove or disprove another possible spouse theory. I have not been able to locate their marriage info to date but assume they married abt 1836 in Yancey County, NC. Jesse and Thomas were born after Leah and Susan. Leah and Susan appear on the 1840 census with their parents. The 1880 census lists Dovey as Mulatto. Was she Mulatto or Native American or do you know for sure? I have her as Dora Monttovery Graham d/o Milas Washington Graham and Sara Ann Unknown. Is Daly B. Bascom or Davenport? Instead of overy as part of Dovey's middle name could it be avery? Thomas Baker, the Senator, also appears in 1820 Buncombe County, NC Census Page 102 and 1840 Yancey County, NC. I need to pull up the 1820 to verify this but have confirmed the 1840. I'm also looking for anything else on Rachel Oakes and her parents. There is a William Oakes who married Ruth Ray in 1830 in Stokes County, NC who is also a person of interest due to the obvious Oakes/Ray connection. Notify Administrator about this message?
