In the 1855 Camden, Oneida census, it gives the birthplace of William Smith as Susquehan County, NY. There is no such county, so I would think they meant Susquehanna County, PA. The Yates County GenWeb (www.linkny.com/~history/genweb.html) has many, many indexes online. Every Yates census up through 1875 is indexed. If you can't get the 1865 state census, I can transcribe the info for your next time I go to the historian's office. The nice thing about being local is that you get to use the originals. The Steuben County GenWeb shows a listing for Seth and David on the Tax rolls for 1862-1863 in Pulteney. I also found Seth and Charles Roff listed in Steuben County in the 1870 census. Seth Baker, Prattsburgh, 39, b. NY, roll 1096 p. 388. Charles Roff (Sarah Baker's husband), Pulteney, 27, b. NY, roll 1096 p. 404. If your not familiar with this area, it may seem like they moved a lot, but these places are all right next to each other. You didn't have to move far to change your address. David lived in Brachport at one time. If you go south just a couple of miles, you cross the county line into Town of Pulteney, Steuben County. Prattsburgh is the next town west of Pulteney. I also found the following burials in Glenview Cemetery, Pulteney: Charles R. Roff 1841-1932 Sarah A. Roff d. 18 Mar 1886 age 40y 8m 1d w/o Charles Clarence W. Roff d. 20 Sept 1870 age 5m 14d s/o Charles and Sarah Jennie Roff d. 10 Apr 1925 age 74 2nd w/o Charles Roff Notify Administrator about this message?
