The results are now in for a direct male descendant of John A. Baize (b.1781, VA) whose Y-DNA was tested and the 12 DYS marker values compared to that of two direct male descendants of Abednego Baze (b.ca1783, VA) as part of the BAIZE/BAZE DNA project. The results can be seen here: http://www.familytreedna.com/(pel5hk55cbciebas1ugq4f45)/public/Baize/index.aspx?fixed_columns=on On the chart shown in the link (and as reprinted below), the individual designated #85190 is a gggg-grandson of John Baize through John's son Isaac Baize (b.ca1816, KY). Individual #85190 is shown to be a 12 for 12 marker match with individual #27662, who is a gggg-grandson of Abednego Baze through Abednego's son Hyrum W. Baze (b.ca1808/1809, KY or TN). Both of the preceding individuals are 11 for 12 matches with a third individual, #85922, who is also a gggg-grandson of Abednego, but through Abednego's son Jefferson P. Baze, Sr. (b.1816, TN). [The slight mismatch for individual #85922, which occurs for DYS marker #439 and which is only of a 1 unit difference (allele value of 13 vs. 12), is not considered significant since DYS439 is one of a class of markers that, on average, are more rapidly mutating and therefore more likely to change over a relatively small number of generations. (By comparison, one can see from the chart that a fourth individual, #N12358, whose ancestry is unknown, is apparently not related to the Baize/Baze lines.)] Here are the 12-marker values from the chart for the descendants of John and Abednego (note that individual #27662 actually took the 37-marker test but the additional values are not shown below): Individual (DYS Marker #'s 393, 390, 19, 391, 385a, 385b, 426, 388, 439, 389-1, 392, 389-2) #85190 - 13, 25, 13, 10, 16, 19, 11, 12, 12, 13, 11, 30 #27662 - 13, 25, 13, 10, 16, 19, 11, 12, 12, 13, 11, 30 #85922 - 13, 25, 13, 10, 16, 19, 11, 12, 13, 13, 11, 30 The results are very good news and indicate that John Baize and Abednego Baze almost certainly must be brothers. (I suppose the theoretical possibility exists for them to be first cousins as well, but in all likelihood they are brothers.) ***We are still hoping to have a direct male descendant of the presumed French Huguenot Peter Bays (I) / Peter Bayes (I), est. b.ca1690, participate in the DNA project as well (i.e., take a 12-marker Y-DNA test), as there is some circumstantial evidence to believe that John and Abednego may be related to Peter as well.*** This now brings to a total of 4 the number of definitively identified siblings for the family of this generation: Abednego Baze, John Baize, Catherine Baize - who married Reuben Booker, and Rebecca Baise (Rebecca Baize) - who married Joseph Street. The given name for their father is unknown. Their mother is Hannah Baise-Walker (she remarried a David Walker and her maiden name is unknown at this time). There also exists the possibility of two additional sisters: Ann Bays (Anny Bays) - who first married Charles Atherton and second married Thomas Pender; and Jane Baise - who appears to have married a Walter McDaniel. (See the prior posting in this forum for additional details on these other siblings: http://genforum.genealogy.com/baize/messages/199.html.) Notify Administrator about this message?
