I'm hoping that providing the following information might help spur the search on to find out what the name is for the father of Abednego Baze/Baize/Baise, b.ca1783 (Virginia), and what the maiden name is for his mother, Hannah (Baise/Baize) Walker. (Hopefully serious Baze/Baize/Baise researchers are now aware that Abednego's father is not an Abednego Boaz, Sr., b.1760, who had a son Abednego Boaz, Jr., b.1791, as still seems to be posted on some websites. These are very clearly two different lines, as can be followed in the censuses.) We previously knew that Abednego Baze married a Mary Shults/Shoults in 1806 and that his mother was Hannah (Baise/Baize) Walker by virtue of the following marriage record (obtained from Marriages, Adair Co., Kentucky, 1802-1840): "Abednego Baise and Mary Shoults, Daughter of David Shoults. Abednego son of Hannah Walker late Baise, who married David Walker. 20 January 1806. married by Henry Winfrey." I have now also obtained marriage records from the same source for a Catherine Baize and a Rebecca Baise/Baize, both of which clearly indicate that Hannah (Baise/Baize) Walker is their mother as well: "BOOHER [BOOKER], Reuben to BAIZE, Catherine, step-d/o David WALKER & d/o Hannah WALKER, 27 Aug 1805." and: "Joseph Street and Rebecca Baise, step-daughter of David Walker and Hannah Baise Walker. Attested John Street, 10 July 1806 by Jeremiah Abell." In addition to these two definite sisters, there is a third possible sister, an Anny (Ann?/Anna?) Bays who had a first marriage in 1798 as follows (obtained from Marriages, Hardin Co., Kentucky, 1793-1850): "Atherton, Charles, and Anny Bays. 11 Sep. 1798. Surety Aron Atherton. Bond is blank as to girl's surname. Her full name is given in Aron Atherton's certificate that both are of age. No return. Unrecorded." She then had a second marriage as follows: "PENDER, Thomas - ATHERTON, Ann 14-OCT-1817" in which an Abednego Baize allegedly served as bondsman, but I've not yet been able to see the records to verify the latter. There is also a fourth possible sister, a Jane Baise who married in 1802 as follows (again from Marriages, Adair Co., Kentucky, 1802-1840): "Walter MCDaniel, Jane or Jean Baise. 21 July 1802 by John White." I could not find any direct connection to Abednego Baze in this last case, but date and place is exactly correct for Jane to be a sister as well. Lastly, the good possibility exists for a fifth sibling of Abednego Baze, a brother this time, in the name of John A. Baize, b.1781. The connection is as follows: same birth state (Virginia) a couple years apart, same migratory path through Kentucky, married a woman, Nancy Shultz, with same last name as Abednego's wife Mary. (Nancy and Mary may be related, but they are not sisters, however.) Additonally, John named one of his sons Abednego, while Abednego named one of his sons John. Further, a connection of John to Abednego's mother, Hannah (Baise/Baize) Walker can also be shown in that Hannah's second husband, David Walker, had a son Richard Walker (whose wife was a Sarah Basye), and his son, Elijah Dudley Walker, was the attorney who settled John Baize's estate years later. If anyone has any additional information regarding the above it would be greatly appreciated. I would be particulary interested in any actual evidence showing that Hannah's maiden name is "Taylor," as has been posted in numerous places. I believe, but do not know for certain, that people may be confusing a Hannah Taylor who would be of the generation immediately prior to that of Hannah (Baise/Baize) Walker. That Hannah Taylor married a John Basye, b.ca1695, who would not be of the correct age to be father to Abednego, Catherine and Rebecca. Thanks, Mark Notify Administrator about this message?
