I do have this information, about Pierre DeBaize coming to Louisiana in 1720. That isn't the first Baize I found in America, however. The first ones I found came over from England on a prison ship circa 1635. One for stealing clothes and bread, one for an unnamed crime, and one for stealing a horse. The story I have about John Baize is that his parents came from Germany and were killed by amerinds when he was about 4 years old. He was found, by Matthias Schultz, wandering in the woods on Schultz's farm. Matthias almost couldn't understand John due to his thick German accent, but understood his name, and that his parents were killed. Matthias raised him, and John ended up marrying his daughter, Nancy. There are Baizes from all over the world, but the farther back I find them, they seem to keep coming from around Alsace-Lorraine. Depending on the time frame, the inhabitants of this area would have been either German or French. I've also found that the surname, Baize, dates to pre-1100 ad in France. Hope some of this information helps. Charles Baize Hildulf@hotmail.com ICQ # 44227782
