I believe the Martha Cooper Baisden you refer to was born in Liberty County, GA. I have information which indicates her parents were Josiah Baisden (b. 1780, N. Carolina - d. abt 1839) and Mary Dunham (b. ?? - d. abt 1840). The information I have shows there were 8 known children in the family including Martha. Josiah's father was also named Josiah Basden (b. abt 1750 - d. aft 30 Jan 1816) and his mother was Mary Ann Mills (b. ?? - d. aft 17 Feb 1837). This family was most likely in Virginia when the younger Josiah was born but moved to North Carolina by the early 1800's. I am related through a brother of the elder Josiah whose name was Jonathan. The younger Josiah, and some others from the family, spread out from North Carolina to Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. My branch moved from North Carolina to Illinois.

I have been unable to find any ties between the BASDEN family here and the BAISDEN's in West Virginia who are descended from John Smith (Jean Schmidt) BAISDEN but they were certainly contemporaries in the VA/WVA area.
