Hi, Laurie, I'm your cousin. Don't know what you've found since 2004, but I just found that Lawrence L. was born Feb. 1884 in Illinois, son of George and Emma Bair. He had a sister Mabel. This is from the 1900 census of Boone township, Madison county, IN. Mabel lived in IN, so your grandmother told me, but the 1915 Seattle Directory has him living with a Mabel S. Maybe this is his sister, or maybe it's a prior wife. As for his whereabouts from 1923 on, that's still a mystery. Your grandmother called herself a widow in the 1930 census, but I never heard that she actually found out he was dead although she hired detectives to find him. Incidentally I've traced your grandmother's Dyer family (which is also mine) back to ca.1770.
