When you unravel everything you would like to go to your local Library and review the obituaries. They will contain great info. Also the Social Security on web will provide great data. Being how your ggrandfather was in Civil War and that Missouri was a border state, did fight on the Federal side, or the Confederate side? I assume he was Sheriff of county of Carthage, Missouri. You doing a great job, go slow, record everthing as for as documentation. It very important to record your documents. Check out the Libray of Congress in your local library.
