Dewey Bert 'Beetle' Bailey, 89, of Kingsport, Sullivan Co TN,
died peacefully on March 17, 2014.
He was born on May 25, 1924, in Dante, VA, to the late William
Emmett and Mattie Castle Bailey. He was a graduate of Dante
High School and joined the U.S. Army to serve in the South
Pacific during World War II. He was employed by Holston
Defense Corporation for 40 years. He was active in Pleasant
View Baptist Church for over 60 years and was a member of
Sinking Creek Masonic Lodge. Dewey was an avid golfer and a
loving husband and father. He was a cheerful soul who will be
greatly missed.
Dewey was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Louise
McGlothlin Bailey; and brother, Harold Bailey.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith Bailey Slagle and son-in-
law Donald Clarence Slagle, of Johnson City, TN; and brother,
Bryce Bailey.
The family is grateful to the staff at Asbury Place, of Johnson
City, Washington Co TN, for their extraordinary care in these
past few months.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 19, 2014,
from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Pleasant View Baptist Church.
The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m., with Pastor Wayne
Baker, officiating.
Military graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 20,
2014, at 11 a.m., in the Sermon on the Mount in Oak Hill
Memorial Park, conducted by the American Legion Hammond
Post # 3 of Kingsport and Gate City Post # 265.
