Alice Frances Bailey Rusek, 75, of Gate City, VA, went to
be with the Lord on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at her home.
Peggy was born February 8, 1938, in Tazewell County, VA.
She was the daughter of James and Winnie Orr Bailey.
Peggy had a lifelong career in public education and was
very active in community affairs. She spent over 30
wonderful years at Mountain Empire Community College.
After retirement from MECC, she and Joe served as
financial consultants. She celebrated life to its fullest.
She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the
lake along with travelling and cheering on her favorite
football team.She touched the lives of many people. She
was an alumnus of Richlands High School (1956), Emory and
Henry College (1966) and Virginia Polytechnic Institute
(1971).
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by
her brother, Jimmy Bailey; and nephew, Donnie Walk.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years,
Joseph L. Rusek, of Gate City, VA; one daughter, Carol
Rusek Summitt and husband Dan, of Goochland, VA' her son,
Joey Rusek and wife Michele, of Gate City, VA; three
sisters, Nancy Ratliff and husband James, of Troutville,
VA, Jean Walk and husband Don, of Tazewell, VA, and Carol
Bailey, of Cedar Bluff, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer
Summitt Boothe and husband Steven Josie Summitt, Bailey
Rusek, Josette Picano, Leyton Rusek, Sophia Summitt, and
John Daniel Summitt; nine nephews, Jim Bailey, Mark
Bailey, Bob Walk, Terry Ratliff, Richard Rusek, Michael
Rusek, Steven Rusek, Brad Rusek, and Brent Rusek; and two
nieces, Tammy Spaulding and Becky Stankowski; and numerous
friends, whom she loved very much.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2013,
from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Gate City
Funeral Home.
A memorial service for Peggy will be held at 7 p.m., in
the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of Gate City Funeral Home,
with the Rev. Odell Beauchamp officiating. Judy McConnell
and Michael Brooking will provide the music.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Mountain
Empire Community College Foundation for a scholarship to
be set up in honor of Prof. Peggy Rusek.
