Larry, Thanks for posting this, and I have sent your post to a friend of mine out of the RHODE ISLAND ROGERS of WAKE Co. NC who now is also DNA TESTED but doesn't match up to the other supposedly RHODE ISLAND ROGERS of ANSON CO. NC. Interesting DNA results. We know that a friend of mine is out of the Wake Co. NC ROGERS of RI, and is connected to THOMAS ROGERS Jr. I believe it is this Thomas Jr. whom you refer to as being the brother to ELIZABETH ROGERS who married your SAMUEL BAILEY ? The DNA on my friends line of ROGERS however, do not match the ROGERS in ANSON CO. NC who are out of the RHODE ISLAND ROGERS but he is now having matches with a line of CONN. Rogers. The RI ROGERS that I am speaking of who have DNA that don't match my fiends are those found in the line of ASA ROGERS of ANSON CO. NC. I have often wondered how accurate some of the paper trails are on these ROGERS who may have been in BERTIE and EDGECOMBE prior to Wake Co. NC? It is so confusing on the ROGERS in NC until you sort them out with DNA. For instance our ROGERS in Montgomery Co. NC are similar in naming patterns to the RI ROGERS in WAKE Co. NC, yet our DNA doesn't match us to my friends ROGERS in Wake either. Our DNA matched up with the lines of ROGERS in VA/ NC/ SC who are said to be out of a JOHN ROGERS b. abt. 1617 England or Wales who arrived on ship 'George' in 1635 at Jamestown VA. What is interesting here and you will find interesting is that in 1635 another ship carrying the ROWLAND family of England came into Jamestown VA as well and yet ROWLANDS were already in Jamestown VA prior to 1635 ( per some researchers ) who were thought to be somehow related to the 1635 arrivals, I believe. Our line of Rowlands who arrived in 1635 Jamestown VA also intermarried with the BAILEY family in Jamestown and we have this scant bit of history on them . . "John Rowland II, was born about 1614, he is reputed to have immigrated to James City, Co. VA aboard the vessel DORCHESTER, according to shipsmanifest, in 1635 at age 21, he married /was married to Margaret Bailey ( Bayley), the daughter of Lewis Bailey. He settled in the James City Co., area, (which was called New Kent until 1734 ) probably "across the river " . James City Co. across the river became Surry Co. ( VA ) in 1652. He is believed to have worked for his brother-in-law, one John White, who was in Merchant/shipping business. He is reputed to have returned to England and was believed deceased after 1653. His children included: B. William Rowland I, b. 1630-42 be the executor of Daniel Bayley, who died Jan. 7, 1678. Daniel may have been brother or son of Lewis Bayley/Bailey." Later we find that the Rowlands migrated into Surry Co. VA and were then split with some going up to Fincastle VA and others going down to Montgomery Co. NC. We find that an AUGUSTINE ROWLAND of this same SURRY CO. VA line of ROWLANDS of JAMESTOWN is in Montgomery Co. NC by at least 1795 per the land suvey map by John Gray Blount ( first survey of Montgomery Co. NC in 1795 ). We also see that my own line of JAMES ROGERS ( Jr. ) and his children are also in Montgomery Co. NC by at least 1779 per their deeds and census data, and petitions they signed. Later we see that my ROGERS left Montgomery Co. NC in 1823, for Caroll Co. TN and soon the ROWLANDS of Montgomery Co. NC also arrived in Carroll Co.TN and intermarried with our ROGERS, GREENS and others from Montgomery Co. NC to Carroll Co. TN. As far as I now know, my direct line is not ROWLAND, nor BAILEY nor GREEN, but all my distant cousins are ROWLANDS / GREENS and others of Montgomery Co. NC ( by way of Wake Co. NC on Greens ) and possibly others of Montgomery Co. NC who also had arrived there via the routes from Jamestown VA after the ANSON CO. NC land was created from Bladen Co. NC in about 1750. Some are now working on the theory that there are many more JAMESTOWN VA families who eventually arrived in Montgomery Co. NC / Stanly Co. NC regions. They have earlier records of their families who were in Jamestown VA and are trying to sort this out. Most are early English settlers arriving in Jamestown by 1640 or earlier and in the Colonial VA records as well. So far we cannot pinpoint how our various ROGERS DNA GROUP connects to the JOHN ROGERS of JAMESTOWN VA who had wife MARY ATKINS, nor can we sort out yet, how we may have connect to each others various ROGERS lines in VA/ NC/ SC/ AL/ MS/ TN/ MO and AR. Our DNA group of ROGERS have been not only DNA TESTED but my line and one other line have been HAPLOGROUP TESTED with the newer SNP -L21 test which is positive for our being CELTS and from SCOTLAND to IRELAND in early history. Some of the DNA experts are now working on the theory that possibly our ROGERS are the Ancient Scots known as MacRORY who were the EARLY SCOTS or CELTS who were the MACRORY CLAN that are the later IRISH MERCENARIES. The MACRORY name has more or less died out in IRELAND per what I have read, but we do find it in America and many times you find them near other ROGERS/ RODGERS groups. I am very puzzled by some of the ROGERS paper trails in Wake, Edgecombe, Bertie Co's NC and hope more of these families will do DNA to sort them all out. We all try hard to verify as much as possible on our ROGERS families, but with so many missing records in NC it is easy to confuse a line. My opinion is, until they sort some of the NC ROGERS out with the DNA out, many of us will still be in the dark on our lines. My line is : James Rogers Sr. b. bet. 1700-1720 in Unknown place; first known record is the 1774 Anson Co. NC petition he signed with his son JAMES ROGERS, Jr. b. abt. 1746 ( on land that became Anson in 1750 ) and an unknown JOHN ROGERS ( no other info on John ). JAMES ROGERS Jr. b. abt. 1746 ( Bladen or Anson Co. NC region ) ; d. after 1810 perhaps ? Had unknown wife and 7 children who were : FREDERICK ROGERS b. bet. 1760-1765; WILLIAM ROGERS b. abt. 1770 NC; JOHN ROGERS b. abt. 1775 NC; ZACHARIAH ROGERS b. bet. 1775-1785 NC; and 3 unknown daughters b. bet. 1760-1785. WILLIAM ( L. ) ROGERS b. abt. 1770 Montgomery Co. NC ( s/o James Jr. above ). Married NANCY UNKNOWN ( listed by some in a diary as NANCY E. CHEATUM b. abt. 1775 NC ). William L. Rogers had his 1801-04 Resurvey deed in Montgomery Co. NC; along with census in 1800 & 1810 Montgomery Co. NC; an 1816 Montgomery Co. NC petition he signed with son BASIL ROGERS; and their 1823 Montgomery Co. NC land deed when they sold their 700 acres in Montgomery Co. NC and removed then to Carroll Co. TN with the rest of their Rogers family. William L. Rogers, brother named JOHN ROGERS who md. SARAH BILES stayed in Montgomery Co. NC and his land was taken into form the new county of Stanly Co. NC where both John Rogers and wife SARAH BILES died. William L. Rogers and Nancy's son BASIL ROGERS is my line. BASIL ROGERS b. abt. 1794 Montgomery Co. NC ; d. 1856 Carroll Co. TN; Married REBECCA UNKNOWN b. abt. 1790 NC. Their son GREEN D. BERRY ROGERS b. 1825 Carroll Co. TN is my line. GREEN D. BERRY ROGERS b. 1825 Carroll Co. TN; d. 1879 Boone Co. AR; Married SIDNEY 'Sidy' FIELDS in 1848 in Carroll Co. TN. Their son William Manuel Rogers is my line. WILLIAM MANUEL ROGERS b. 1857 Carroll Co. TN; d. 1906 AR/ Married OPHELIA ANN RICHESIN in 1888 AR and are my Grandparents. Naming patterns between the ROWLANDS/ GREENS/ ROGERS continued on for generations and kept the naming patterns going up until many moved into AR, which were similar naming patterns to the RHODE ISLAND ROGERS whom we have so far no DNA MATCHES with. WITH BAILEYS in both the ROWLAND lines of JAMESTOWN And the ROGERS of JAMESTOWN VA in our DNA MATCHES, and with your RHODE ISLAND ROGERS and RHODE ISLAND BAILEYS who also were in the region of Rowan Co NC, it is a curious thing to note and hopefully we'll know more in the future per DNA if there is any connections at all with these different Family Groups of BAILEYS and ROGERS.
